Fall is by far my favorite time of the year. There is nothing quite like it. The weather is warm but the breezes are cool. The ,what was green, foliage starts to turn yellow, then orange or red, then brown. You can finally be comfortable, without getting hot or cold. But one of my favorite things is that it is perfect picnic weather. However, in order to have a great picnic you need to find the right ingredients.
Where else could one do that without going to your local farmers market? In my case the Union Square Green Market. There is nothing like going to the market at this time of the year. Just about everything is available (with in reason) at this time.
Tomatoes, Peppers, Squash, carrots, celery, onions, chestnuts, lettuces, greens, apples, grapes, cardoons, garlic, beans, radishes, beets, turnips, herbs, and cabbage.. to name only a few!
Make the most out of this time, because in a month or two the markets, begin to dwindle down, and less and less becomes available, making it more of a challenge to be creative, using only root vegetables, and apples for the most part.
